Like other B complex vitamins, thiamine is considered an “anti-stress” vitamin because it may strengthen the immune system and improve the body’s ability to withstand stressful conditions. It is named B1 because it was the first B vitamin discovered.

Thiamine deficiency is rare, but can occur in people who get most of their calories from sugar or alcohol. People with thiamine deficiency have difficulty digesting carbohydrates. As a result, a substance called pyruvic acid builds up in their bloodstream, causing a loss of mental alertness, difficulty breathing, and heart damage (a disease known as beriberi).

Some preliminary evidence suggests that thiamine — along with other nutrients — may lower risk of getting cataracts.

Sufficient folic acid intake is critical for pregnant women to prevent neural tube defects in developing embryos. It is also essential for ensuring fertility. Furthermore, it can relieve hot flashes in postmenopausal women, and may also be helpful in preventing heart disease. Folic acid has been used to help treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Find out more about Wendy Wang N.D., Sarah Murphy N.D. and Lilian Au N.D.

Dr. Wendy Wang N.D. graduated from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ. She is also trained in Acupuncture, Craniosacral Adjustment and Homotoxicology. In addition, Dr. Wang is fluent in both Chinese and English, and periodically gives seminars about health.

Early on in her adult life she experienced health challenges while working as a software engineer due to stress at work, eating a standard American diet and being chemically sensitive toward environmental pollution in metropolitan cities. She strongly believes that with proper diet and nutrition, as well as a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude towards life, many chronic illnesses can be overcome. She knows that balancing the inner energy can improve one’s optimal health.

Dr. Sarah Murphy N.D. is a graduate of the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. She also completed her Masters in acupuncture and Chinese herbs at The Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in Gainesville, Florida.

Her treatment goals are to work in partnership with each person to achieve a healing path that is focused on the individual’s personal health needs, that addresses the real causes of illness versus merely suppressing symptoms, and that stimulates the natural vitality of the body to heal itself and reach a state of optimal wellness. Dr. Murphy is renowned for her custom-blended vitamin injections that provide a fast and potent delivery system for crucial nutrition into your body. This equates to powerful healing and rapid relief for a wide variety of ailments.

Dr. Lilian Au is a graduate of Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ, and was the recipient of the Daphne Blayden Student Award for her academic achievement and her compassionate nature in helping others.
